Here is a great article on how to use Google to search for guest blog post opportunities.
Guest posting is a great way to gain some visibility with a new audience. But for maximum effectiveness (and maximum sanity on your part) you first need to consider the following:
- Be sure you will be able to guest post more than once. Unless the blog is very popular and highly ranked, to make any impression with readers you definitely want to be able to post at least monthly.
- Be sure you have a cache of existing content that you can recast or refresh. Typically, it’s best for any brand new thinking to appear first on your property — meaning, your blog or website.
- Do your homework. How influential is the blog? Do your clients or influencers read it? How do you know? Ask around. Type a few keywords into Google. How far down in search does the blog appear? Imagine this post as part of your Google footprint? Will anyone care? Be picky.
It’s better to pick a few outlets and own them than to try to be everywhere. Figure out where your customers go to get information and strive to maintain a steady stream of content there to represent you, confirm your expertise and, ultimately help your prospects to buy.
